What we do

Girl Hub's mission is to empower the 250 million adolescent girls living in poverty to reach their full potential. Girls are a proven force for change and are the catalyst to end global poverty.

When you improve a girl’s life through education, health, safety and economic opportunity, these changes have a positive ripple effect on their families, communities and nations. Our work aims to shift the social norms that hold girls back, and drive better investments that directly benefit girls.

To achieve this, we focus on unlocking insights. Everything we do is built on what girls tell us they need and what they tell us will work for them.

Girl Hub is a strategic collaboration between the Department for International Development and the Nike Foundation, designed to bring together the expertise of both organisations to transform the lives of adolescent girls.

We currently operate in RwandaNigeria and Ethiopia. We also support work for girls in other countries, such as Kenya and DRC, from our global team in London.

Our work is concentrated in four areas:

  1. ADVOCACY: Bringing girls’ voices to the forefront and involving them in the design and implementation of policies.
  2. BRAND AND COMMUNICATION: Developing social communications to inspire and engage girls, and shape how societies view and value them.
  3. PARTNERSHIPS AND POLICY: Informing and influencing decision makers to invest overseas aid and development budgets in effective policies and programmes that benefit girls.
  4. INSIGHTS & KNOWLEDGE: Creating robust data and evidence to track the impact of our work for girls.
